『指輪物語』は、イギリスのJ・R・R・トールキンによる長編小説。妖精や魔法使いが国家を築き、戦争を繰り広げる架空の世界を舞台としたハイ・ファンタジー作品である。初期作品『ホビットの冒険』の続編として始まるが、より大きな物語になった。1937年から1949年にかけて少しずつ書かれたが、執筆期間の大部分は第二次世界大戦中であった。最初の版は1954年から1955年にかけて3巻本として出版された。以来多くの言語に翻訳され、増刷を重ね、20世紀文学で最もポピュラーな作品の一つになった。 …
