One at a time, mushers ease their teams into the starting chute under the flattering Jr. Iditarod banner. Teams are announced over a public address system and released at staggered, two-minute intervals. Well-wishers and clicking cameras follow the racing bibs as their numbers disappear into the vase white wilderness.
