Prof. Dr. Josef Polišenský, MD. (1915 - 2001) was a Czech historian and educator who specialized mainly in the modern history of the Czech lands, Europe and the history of Latin America. In 1957, he was appointed professor of general history at the Philosophical Faculty of Charles University in Prague and in the same year, received the title of doctor of historical sciences. In 1969 he was sent as a visiting professor at the University of California at Berkeley . He was a member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and the Royal Dutch Academy of Sciences. Josef Polisensky's publication activity includes more than 120 book titles published in Czech in addition to key world languages and about one and a half thousand essays published in prestigious historical journals.
