I wanted to like this book and I do think that the author is being very honest and forthright with the reader. Here is the problem: many claims are made with no scriptural evidence. They may be thinks which are commonly preached or taught within the church, but the author simply does not put forth the time and effort to lay forth real evidence on many occasions. Another issue is the author proposes many instances, where if people had just listened to him and his "voice of God" they would have been o.k. // I think it would have been more interesting if Stanley had put forth an instance where he thought he "heard from God," but was wrong. Alas, he never does, leading the reader with the impression that common sense is not needed as much as it really is, as the author never admits any fault of his own; and since learning from one's own mistakes is at the center of the Christian experience, I feel that many of the times where the author lies around and blames an illness or feeling a sense of needing more, to be proof that He does not really take bold steps for the Lord day by day. The author preaches against passivity, but he himself almost seems passive to be honest. Also, there is nothing in here about praying in tongues, and since praying is at the forefront of the interaction and seeking guidance with God, I almost feel like the author is missing out on one of the biggest keys to listening to God, ultimately dwindling his argument that he is qualified to be a "perfect" source of wisdom in listening to the voice of God. (I'll have it be known I do not think the author actually thinks that, and I do think he is an honest, God-loving, God-fearing man; this is just the image of himself he portrays in this book). Thank you for reading this analysis. - Zach
