Set in the world of Steve Jackson's Car Wars, this book disappointed a lot of people; the Car Wars players because it didn't adhere to the game rule, and other people because it was set in a game universe.
That's a damn shame, because it's a hell of a novel. If you like the idea of a post-apocalyptic society with automotive blood sports and vicious biker gangs, then there is literally nothing about this novel to disagree with.
The Square Deal also has, what for me, is the best sequence of events I've ever read in a novel: the battle in the cherry picker, and the step by step detailed following of the aftermath.
Read. This. Book.
