La lunga marcia è un romanzo di Stephen King pubblicato sotto lo pseudonimo di Richard Bachman. Fu incluso nella collezione The Bachman Books dopo che King rivelò pubblicamente di essere Bachman. Ambientato in un presente alternativo, la trama si svolge intorno ai partecipanti ad una terrificante competizione di marcia, organizzata annualmente da una versione dispotica degli Stati Uniti d'America. Le differenze tra questi USA ed i nostri sono vaghe, ma sembrerebbero indicare che sono stati battuti nella seconda guerra mondiale.Il romanzo esce in Italia per la prima volta il 21 luglio 1985 nella collana fantascientifica Urania.

Under the pseudonym Richard Bachman, Stephen King has written his best hands-down story in my opinion ever....powerful, scary, poignant, gory, thought-provoking, beautiful in its own right....in my humble opinion any book that can give me recurring nightmares is fantastic. Its one of his least known works but it is by far my favorite because it makes you think and scares you on a level that will permeate even the soundest sleepers dreams
