The Name of the Wind

Novel, Fantasy by Πάτρικ Ρόθφας

Blurb

The riveting first-person narrative of a young man who grows to be the most notorious magician his world has ever seen. From his childhood in a troupe of traveling players, to years spent as a near-feral orphan in a crime- ridden city, to his daringly brazen yet successful bid to enter a legendary school of magic, The Name of the Wind is a masterpiece that transports readers into the body and mind of a wizard. It is a high-action novel written with a poet's hand, a powerful coming-of-age story of a magically gifted young man, told through his eyes: to read this book is to be the hero.

Fun story and magic system but meandering and ultimately unsatisfying.

Decent story, but the author is amazingly long winded making this book more dressing that meat.

With this one, I made a fascinating observation. Either you love it, or you hate it. Well. I loved it. So, so much. I read it a couple of days ago, and I just can't stop thinking about it. So great! I loved Rothfuss' beautiful world and everything in it. He created such darkness and such beauty in everything. The cities, the tales, the music, the characters. He is the master of realness and inbetweens. No black and whites. No fake perfection. But a realness that is so rare in fantasy. I loved everything about it. So in love with this. And Patrick Rothfuss. That man deserves a cookie!

Among the worst books I've read, right down there with 50 Shades of Gray. Hours of my life wasted; I'm embarrassed that I finished a book with so little merit. I thought it was so bad that I'm disappointed in the friend who recommended it.

Best book I've read in many years. I cannot give enough praise to this fantastic debut by Rothfuss. The story hooks you from the start and takes you on a journey you would never have imagined. A must read!

Interesting story, but there were too many non-relevant side stories. The overall story moved too slowly for my taste. 4.0
