A woman is visting friends in Baracoa, Cuba, where it is said that the person who bathes in the waters of the Honey River and gets married in Baracoa must stay there forever. She is meeting her Afro-Cuba lover Onaldo and she becomes ""Katrina"" in her private journals. She travels the length of El Caimán (Cuba) in a series of linked stories. Vivid and sensitive portraits are balanced with the dark undercurrents of Cuban life as Katrina witnesses how politics have reshaped the culture and lives of the people she meets, while falling deeplyin love with the true and hidden life of El Caimán.
