The Church in the West sees Jesus as a divine figure in whom it is necessary to believe in order to be saved. The East sees him as a human figure, who shows us the way to the divine. The way, the truth and the life is simply the way of Jesus, the way of rebirth. The Church, in presenting him as the only path to God, has brought us division and violence rather than the peace that Jesus taught.
