It is written by Timothy Zahn, bestselling author of the Thrawn Trilogy, to which this novel is a prequel. The book was released by Del Rey, first in hardcover, then in paperback in January 2007. The cover art is by Dave Seeley.

Timothy Zahn is my favorite Star Wars author, for good reason! He always manages to craft a perfect (or near-perfect) story. Including the "Mist Encounter" at the end of the novel is a perfect way to end such a stunning tale.
